My rating: 3 of 5 stars
I received It’s in His Smile through Goodreads.com. It is a pretty much a typical romance novel, which isn’t a bad thing. The heroine and hero, Miranda and Talmadge, share past romantic history as well has stubbornness, a habit of taking the weight of the world on their shoulders, and a frustrating lack of communication. So, pretty typical romantic leads. Alexander does an excellent job of building the anticipation and the – um- romantic scenes are worth it. She’s also incorporated some fabulous supporting characters that (I feel) don’t get enough page time to be developed. But I gather most of them are more well-developed in the other Red River Valley novels. At one point the novel gets mired down with repetition of the same issues (that are mostly in the minds of the leads) and the end, like that of many typical romances, is too precious.
